Light knit viscose fabric is highly sensitive to water and is prone to significant, potentially permanent, damage, including
shrinkage, weakening, stiffness, and permanent water stains. Types of Damage
When exposed to water, especially hot water or agitation, the following can occur:
Weakening of fibers: Viscose fibers lose up to 50-80% of their strength when wet, making them highly susceptible to tearing or stretching.
Shrinkage: The fabric can shrink considerably, and this shrinkage is often difficult to reverse.
Stiffening/Crisping: As it dries, the fabric can become stiff or "crunchy.
Permanent Water Stains/Yellowing: Even plain water can cause permanent yellowing or discoloration on the fabric.
Color Bleeding/Fading: Dyes can bleed or fade, resulting in permanent staining.
Deformation: Twisting or wringing the wet fabric can cause permanent shape loss.
